On the 17th April, Get Some returns home to the The Gramaphone with a card stacked full of talent.

Tipped by Fact Magazine as one of their producers to watch for 2010, Mosca (www.myspace.com/deejaymosca) is leaving no stone unturned this year. When not working on Bruk Magazine (www.brukmagazine.wordpress.com) with Unknown Soulja, or promoting their club night U Dun Know, he’s busy in the lab cooking up beats. Super fresh production, genre smashing club music. Square One is out now on Night Slugs.

With remixes under their belts for Hot Chip  and Gorillaz, a pioneering 3D rave night, a radio show and a record label, Dancing Robot  (http://www.dancingrobotmusic.co.uk) look set to stop at nothing but world domination. Their live shows are pure hype and the lads’ sets at packed out Coronet and Koko are sights to behold.

Badboy Rinse FM DJ’s Elijah and Skilliam have been rocking out shows across Europe with the toughest grime and dubstep sets. It can’t be overstated how much they do for the scene with their Butterz blog (http://verybutterz.blogspot.com/) pushing the sound far and wide. And with a record label on the way, the levels continues to be kept high. Dubplate pressure not to be missed.

As per, resident Get Some selectors will keep you niced up all night with the right blend of old and new. Stick it in your diary.

    HUDSON MOHAWKE REMIXES JODECI

    Posted by MATT

Today Hudson Mohawke dropped this massive  bootleg of Jodeci’s “Freek N You” over on Warp.net alongside his UK tour announcement. When HudMo started getting noticed his remix of Tweet’s “Oops!” took clubs by storm, and this track is looking like he hasn’t lost the flare for turning an RnB jam into an low club anthem anthem.

Shouts out to Mumdance, the Old Skool Garage crew and the Mad Decent camp. Also known as Jack, Mumdance is a Grime producer and global remix smash. DIY TURNTABLE KIT

As most of you know I am a lover of design and my day job is graphic design. When I saw this I went nuts, probably not the most practical of investments but a beautiful piece of design and a great idea none the less. These guys have a whole array of amazing musical kit including a portable synth to die for, well worth checking out. Find out more here: http://www.teenageengineering.com/.

MOUNT KIMBIE AT THE DEAF INSTITUTE

    Posted by MATT

Its hard to ignore the Red Bull Music Academy this year as it invades London. From live shows, to daily newspapers, to seminars the RBMA is involved in so many things these surrounding months. But its not all about the Academy that takes place each year – over on their website, they record and post hundreds of live sets from around the world.

Mount Kimbie, easily one of my favourite acts of last year, played a live show at Manchester’s Deaf Institute and RBMA were there to capture it. 60 minutes of leftfield electronic music that breaks the definitions of any genre I could think to place it in. Essential.

    Listen up.

WILEY – NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN (HERVE REMIX)

“It doesn’t matter how many times he flops, when he gets it on point. SHEEEEEEEZ”

someone said that to me once

On March 15th be sure to pick up ‘The Eskibeats Instrumentals’ on Wiley’s own Avalanche Records. 19 tracks from Eskiboy himself.

    GREYMATTER INTERVIEW

    Posted by OUZO

We have been speaking to Graymatter over the last couple of months and have managed to get a mini GET SOME interview with him! He is a favourite of ours here and is definitely one to watch this year and from what I have heard from his new album, Mind Over Matter, he is bound to blow. We have also managed to book him for our June event at the Gramaphone so look out for that one… Greymatter is not only a great producer but he has some very interesting views on the music industry and sounds like he has his head screwed on. The album was released on CD on Monday and Digital version is available as of tomorrow, be sure to get your self a copy. Check out the interview below.

    PEACE

    GREYMATTER INTERVIEW

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Graham. I spend all of my time working on music in one form or another.

    Where are you currently based?
    South London

When did you first get involved with music and what were you doing?
Been buying and listening for as long as I can remember. Dance music started with commercial dance when I was 11 or 12 – ‘Now’ compilations, Dance Mania etc. I liked piano breakdowns, particularly fast ones, dirty I know. That led me to hardcore and jungle around 1993/4 onto happy hardcore then trance funky house big beat electronica all forms of soul and jazz Brazilian African over 15 years….. now literally anything gets a run. I went through a stage of listening to music I didn’t like just to create reference points and a fuller musical landscape – knowing what something sounds like has
always been more important to me than knowing the name of the artist/track/label.

Started messing with DJing at 15 after a moment of clarity whilst listening to a United Dance 1 compilation I think; realising it was two records playing at the same time was pretty special. Went straight out and bought a 12”, modded a broken turntable I found in my loft and mixed to radio for a few months until I got some belt drives. The rest was step by step.

I grew up in Maidstone, which had a lot to offer in terms of dance music at the time – Club Class was rammed every Friday and live on Radio 1 a fair bit. There were also some good hip hop and drum and bass sessions around town. The big events were at Atomics, which was a 1000 capacity square room, face the front, elevated booth, big system. Influence wise that place is second only to Plastic People for me, it used to go off. We also had a couple of good record shops and there were a lot of raves in and around Kent so there was a decent scene.

How has the music industry changed since you first got involved? In your opinion, has the online revolution has a positive effect on what you do and the music industry?
Big question, too big to answer properly here. Changes have been enormous – some for the good eg access to music, access to production software, discoverability of music. Some for the bad eg falling sales, falling publishing income, the increased speed at which scenes are born and die, less time given to attention given to individual tracks, increased hype level.

The whole game has flipped. There is no longer one answer to surviving in the music industry – you have to know your market inside out. And theyr’e all different.

Do you find there to be a prejudice against DJ’s who use MP3′s and is software like Ableton Live bridging the gap?
I think there is yes, but people are going to have to get used to it. Personally I have always embraced new technology – I use everything be it Ableton, Serato, CD or vinyl. What comes out the speakers is the most important thing for me.

I do have issues with people playing low quality audio though. I recently heard about a night in Portsmouth that only allows music downloaded from blogs for example… I don’t have all the details but i’m guessing its a proper ear basher.

What can we expect form Greymatter in 2010?
Second album, a few collaborations and remixes, a jazz project, some techno, more on Wolf Music and a live show

If your career in music was to end tomorrow, what would you do instead?
    Carpenter

Who should we be watching in 2010?
New stuff from Mark Pritchard as Afrika Hi Tek is BAD, Illum Sphere, KRL, Klic, Throwing Snow, Blue Daisy, VVV, Wolf Music, Subeena, Sampha, Americen Men

And finally, please complete the following sentence…
I badly need some at the moment so its definitely….

    PUMA FOOTBALL VALENTINES DAY VIRAL

    Posted by OUZO

Something non-music related form me today… If you are one of the millions of football fans who wondered what you were going to do on Valentines Day when faced with the decision of, big game versus the missus, then Puma had decided that this was the solution. Personally, I know that P.O.W. would have cut my nuts off if this is what I did (although I wasn’t in the UK with her at all this year), none the less a great viral and great idea! Hats off to Puma, enjoy… PEACE

    VALENTINES SLOW JAMS CHAPTER 3

    Posted by MATT

For the past 3 years, Scotland’s finest export Hudson Mohawke has been casually stringing together the smoothest slow jams for you for valentines day. When I heard the first instalment of this mix series I listened to almost nothing else for a whole summer. You can get the first two over at LuckyMe, and although it’s a day late (Hudson had some computer issues) chapter 3 is out now. Hot!

As a bonus, on the love tip, Roska’s track “Love Tonight” is getting a lot of play with me too, so head over to Fader to check it out. It’s a fragile UKF track that burrows its way under your skin, with vocals from Roska’s mate Jamie George. Forthcoming on Rinse.

    QUEST – SMOOTH SKIN

I am in Copenhagen at the moment and I missed the last Deviation session with Mala, a long time hero of mine and someone I have been lucky enough to sit next to on a flight to Munich and hear him play a massive 4 hour set to 20 people (plus countless DMZ sets, of course). Obviously I was intrigued to hear about how it went down and stumbled across a nice little post regarding Mala’s last tune. It is an absolute banger and if the rest of the set was up to this standard, I definitely missed a huge night! Here it is, check it out.

    TOM SCOTT INTERVIEW

    Posted by OUZO

YO! Hello from Copenhagen people… I have wanted to do something with Tom Scott, a friend over at Chemical records, and was talking to him before Christmas about bits and bobs. After chatting I realised that it was Chemicals 10th year as an online store (pretty good going if you ask me) and that now would be a good time to ask him some questions. Watch this space as Chemical and Get Some may have something up their sleeve for 2010! So here is the interview, hope you enjoy. Thanks very much Tom!

    PEACE&OUZO!

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Tom Scott and I’m responsible for marketing at Chemical Records. I’m involved in too many things to list them all here, but mainly focus on music-related fashion marketing, PR and advertising. If you’ve ever seen a Chemical Records vinyl giveaway on Dubstep Forum, that’s me as well.

    Where are you currently based?
I live and work in Bristol. Bedminster, South Of The River.

When did you first get involved with music and what were you doing?
Chemical is actually my first music industry employer. Before I came here I was running the show online at Drooghi, which was a great menswear retailer in Cardiff.

How has the music industry changed since you first got involved? In your opinion, has the online revolution has a positive effect on what you do and the music industry?
I think the biggest change has been the shift in importance for artists of live performances over record sales. It’s something that many DJs and producers have known for years now: record releases are important for establishing your name, DJ sets and live PAs bring in the regular income.

As for the online revolution, I think the general assumption that digital music sales are killing off vinyl couldn’t be further from the truth. Being an online vinyl retailer allows us to sell to scores of emerging markets and our vinyl sales are stronger than ever. That’s the real benefit of the internet on the music industry, it’s opens it up to many more talented people who never would have had a look in previously. If you’re making great music, geography shouldn’t be a limiting factor in getting it heard.

It wasn’t very long ago that the music industry pronounced vinyl dead. In the last couple of years digital music has begun to find its feet, how has this affected your business and has vinyl made a comeback?
Vinyl was and continues to be the foundation of our business. As I mentioned in my previous answer, the internet has allowed us to sell to a number of countries that most people would have dismissed offhand if they didn’t know any better. Hopefully, access to our music has been a contributing factor in the growth of their local scene.

Do you find there to be a prejudice against DJ’s who use MP3′s and is software like Ableton Live bridging the gap?
I think it’s a fairly typical response to new technology, especially when the existing way of doing things has been around for so long. Personally I think once people realise the versatility these digital interfaces give you they’ll be more open to them. I know guys in the US like Starkey work closely with manufacturers on testing and development and speaking to Starkey about it, he’s said it’s opened up so many more options to him in terms of the music he can play. What DJ wouldn’t want to broaden their range, increase the number of bookings they can get and the number of people they can play out to?

What can we expect from Chemical in 2010?
2010 is the 10th year of the Chemical website, so we’ve got one or two things lined up to mark the occasion. Without going into specifics and giving the game away, we’ve got a number of products and events coming that are going to make this a year to remember.

If your career in music was to end tomorrow, what would you do instead?
If wasn’t working in music or fashion, I’d like to think it was because I’d gone off in a MK1 Range Rover to build a vineyard in the Cornish Riviera.

Who should we be watching in 2010?
Kastle, Mensah and Cosmin TRG are the three I’m watching.

Kastle is a new project from B.Rich that’s remixing and producing on a Roger Troutman/Zapp level.
Mensah is H.E.N.C.H.’s prodigal son. I’ve been lucky enough to see him go B2B with Jakes at Run and you feel the future of this music’s in safe hands!
TRG needs no introduction – he’s one of those very lucky people that can turn their hand to any style of music and produce amazing things.

And finally, please complete the following sentence…
    GET SOME… Sun!

    GIGGS – DON'T GO THERE (feat. B.O.B)

    Posted by JASSET

Giggs divides opinion, but love him or hate him, he is relevant and is lyrically on point. Something about his voice just makes you stop and take notice. Here is the video, directed by Adam Powell (one to watch for sure), to his forthcoming single Don’t Go There. The single is signed to XL and due for release by the end of the month. The video was shot in both Peckham and Atlanta, the artists’ home-towns. It reminds me a little a bit of the 99 Problems video.

    OG's – HOT ONES (ROYAL T REMIX)

I was going to wait until the weekend to drop this as Saturday Night Banger but actually it’s just what you need to get you into focus mode on a grey Tuesday Morning. Royal T remixes one the biggest underground tracks of last year.
