AD 3LP

Posted by RICHARD AKI

As mentioned in our list of ‘Xmas Giveaways,’ Audio Doughnuts marked this Christmas with a free ten-track showcase LP made up of previously unreleased material from TOYC, Funkystepz, Kozee, Teeza, Diamond Bass, The Fives, 8Spirit, Shift Key and also one anonymously produced track.

In keeping with the label’s ethos, the LP features a wide range of genres from dubstep and grime to an acoustic funky house track, ‘Feels Good,’ from The Fives. Whilst all the tunes are of the high quality you can expect of this label’s releases, the standout tracks for me are the two downtempo house/garage cuts from TOYC and Kozee; and the grime-infected ‘Symphony,’ from Teeza. Stream the showcase below, and download the tracks invidually here.

This month also sees the label escaping its London base to host a night alongside Absentminds at Mint Club, Leeds, on January 20. The line up includes Rustie, Appleblim, Koreless, Onoe Caponoe, Pusherman, Voyeur and AD 3LP releasee, TOYC. Check the Facebook RSVP page for more details.

Last month Nokia took three poodles in Shanghai, the exclusive Loop app and created this ridiculous and bassline heavy ringtone. I’ve never heard anything like it.

NIKE X SIZE? DAVE WHITE: 10 YEARS OF OBSESSION

Posted by RALPH

For the past year Rosie Lee have helped Nike & size? with their 10 year collaboration celebrations; a year which so far has seen the release of 9 limited edition shoes. To coincide with the release of the tenth shoe and put the finishing touches on a fantastic year we were asked to organising a party. The evening was held at Dover St’s Air Gallery and featured all ten limited edition shoes and a one off piece of Dave White Artwork, which was broken into pieces and given away. Drinks, DJ’s and Sneaker heads all culminated in a top night to celebrate Nike & size? and their ongoing obsession with all things sneaker.

Adidas have launched their new London, streets orientated celebration. There’s lots to get involved with. Anything that focuses on talent here at home in London we like.

“The sounds, the sights, and the vibrancy of young London”.

In association with SB.TV (The UK’s most popular youth broadcaster) London based artists are taken back to the endz and interviewed exclusively for Adidas. Click on the name below for a link to the interview. Artists include:

Bashy (open links in a new tab)
The front-man demonstrating that the campaign isn’t just riding with newcomers and using big underground acts that have impacted the newer artists in town.

Devlin
Not to forget the outskirts of London, clashes and chart successes. Devlin is a breakthrough artist with solid roots and a bright future ahead.

Loick Essien
Yes you’re right you do remember him from Big Brovaz “OK” a few years back. Not to mention the underground classic with Bashy and “Black Boys”.

Maxsta
Another strong Grime contributor. Maxsta is unsigned and highly rated.

Scorcher
We might be loosing Scorcher to the US soon as he moves away from Grime to Hip Hop.

Thanks to J Money for the artist knowledge. What do you think about the line up?

INTERACTIVE IMPROV

Posted by BRETT

Saturday before last something fairly interesting happened. An auditorium stage was given over to a quintet of both underground and commercially interesting musical talent. In front of a seated audience Jammer, Camelot, Mumdance, Sampha and a chap named Rodaidh McDonald (he mixed The XX’s album) took spontaneous cues from a crowd and proceeded to co-create a piece of music. With a 55 minute time limit my expectations weren’t particularly high, and sure enough the end product (yet to be made available) was pretty basic. But, most worthy of note were the levels of engagement and response to participatory portions of the process from spectators. As an effort to create an informative experience I have to tip my hat to The Creators Project. As just one of many features among an array of talks, installations and performances on the night I’m sure Jammer and crew will be happy to hear that through a series of chats and eavesdropped conversations it seemed clear to me that this show of interactive improv had been the highlight to many. Nice one VICE, nice one Intel. It’s clearly what the people want, so, here’s to more of the same…
