AUDIO DOUGHNUTS BIRTHDAY

Posted by RICHARD AKI

Audio Doughnuts had kept people guessing for months with this secret line-up, but it was definitely worth the wait. The label celebrated it’s first birthday at Hidden on Saturday, as part of the Found series; and put on quite a party.

On top of a wide variety sets from all the Audio Doughnuts team, there were massive live sets from headliners, Rustie, Koreless and Kuedo, who all had the main room bouncing in each of their different ways. The night matched a lot of people’s high expectations of a label who have grown so much in 2011, and from who so much is expected in 2012. Be sure to keep an eye out for them!

NEW ARTISTS – MAGGS GALLERY

Posted by BOB P LEISURE

Be sure to check out our friends’ launch of New Artists down at the awesome Magg’s Gallery in Mayfair from the 2nd-5th December – a group show featuring the photography of Richie Culver, and contemporary works by Shorvon and Hunter.

The freedom of the hit and run gallery model is that it allows each show to be tailored to the specific space, removing the limitations of the white box, and providing the audience with a unique experience.

See y’all down there.

FOUND SERIES

Posted by BOB P LEISURE

It’s probably about time we did a post on the incredible Found series made up of 13 electronic music nights in London. Found has managed to lockdown some of London’s best people and put them all under one awesomely well designed banner.

The line ups are too big, and often too awesome, to explain in the mere form of language. So instead, here are the flyers of the events I have been most excited about (this is an understatement, I have been in a nervous frenzy).

First to mention was the Heritage night which was awesome..

Then there’s this, Butterz this Friday at Hidden.. Bamm!

And finally (this one’s big) we have our freinds’, Audio Donuts’ 1st Birthday.

And they have booked our friend, M.I.K, repping the GET SOME family.

And finally, our friend Crypt is repping GET SOME on Friday 9th December right hurr..

Friends, this is just a sample, head yourself over to http://www.facebook.com/foundseries to stay in the loop for all the other nights.

SBTRKT/SBTRKT (YOUNG TURKS)

SBTRKT album launch YOUNG TURKS

For anyone that has seen SBTRKT perform live in the past, it’s almost always been behind the decks, and of course, hidden behind one of his many brightly coloured tribal masks. Last night however was somewhat different; with Aaron Hughes (sans full mask) taking residence behind a drum kit and assortment of hardware at The Hoxton Bar and Kitchen.

The opening act was Charlene Soraia, a part British, part Italian, part Indian folk singer who, with electric guitar in tow, sang songs including Lemonade (about her friends dad), Bike (not about bikes), Railway, Daffodils and Postcards from iO; an astronomic ditty about the moon of Jupiter. A good rapport with the ever-increasing crowd and glimmers of Adele and Joni Mitchell were seen by those who arrived early enough to avoid the queue which by now, was already stretching its way through the bar and out onto the pavement.

Next up was Redinho from Glaswegian record label Numbers who brought some West Coast flava to Shoreditch. Aided by his Novation synth and talkbox, he drew influence from and comparisons to Zapp’s Roger Troutman in an adrenalin-fuelled, upbeat and somewhat exhausting performance.

Multi-talented DJ and producer Sinden filled in between sets, playing a mixed selection of tracks including the Ramadanman / S-X bootleg of Woooo Glut, BTSTU by XL’s latest signing Jai Paul and Hudson Mohawke’s Schmink Wolf Refix of Lady Luck by Jamie Woon amongst others.

Finally, and much later than billed was SBTRKT, who, accompanied by Sampha on keys and vocals, performed a range of tracks from the new, self-titled album in an hour-long set which included Living Like I Do and Trials Of The Past. A welcome addition to the lineup was Roses Gabor, sporting regal headgear and providing dulcet tones on Pharaohs. Jessie Ware’s absence was replaced by some pre-recorded Little Dragon vocals on Wildfire and the encore was an impromptu rendition of Up and Down described as ‘a jam’ and ‘kind of made up on the spot.’

All in all the night was a huge success with SBTRKT performing to a sell-out crowd, which will no doubt have promoters Eat Your Own Ears looking for a larger venue the next time they host the man behind the mask.

SBTRKT by SBTRKT is released via Young Turks on Monday 27th June and currently available to pre-order from iTunes.
