NEW ARTISTS – MAGGS GALLERY

Posted by BOB P LEISURE

Be sure to check out our friends’ launch of New Artists down at the awesome Magg’s Gallery in Mayfair from the 2nd-5th December – a group show featuring the photography of Richie Culver, and contemporary works by Shorvon and Hunter.

The freedom of the hit and run gallery model is that it allows each show to be tailored to the specific space, removing the limitations of the white box, and providing the audience with a unique experience.

See y’all down there.

WEST COAST HIP-HOP: A HISTORY IN PICTURES

Posted by RALPH

A new book will be available in January 2012 showcasing classic photos of our favourite rap stars. ‘West Coast Hip Hop A History In Pictures by Michael Miller’. This will be a limited edition 9″x 12″ coffee table book, strictly limited edition!

Michael Miller was the man at the right time when the west coast hip hop movement was exploding. Besides shooting all the major players in the game he also hung out with the artists and became a part of the culture. Shooting important and iconic figures like Cypress Hill, NWA, Tupac, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, House Of Pain to name but a few!

His photos are an amazing archive of a magical time in music and his crazy but true stories about the shoots are mind blowing!

Georgina Cook

Solo show of London-based photographer Georgina Cook’s work. Her photographs have documented the explosion of the dubstep scene from it’s Croydon inception to worldwide dancefloor music. Being friends with many of the scene’s early protagonists, Cook has had an insight and access into the unfolding events that other photographers could only wish for. Well worth checking out.

PHOTOGRAPHY: THE MESSAGE/ASHES57

Posted by JASSET

The Message, Ashes57

This should be a really interesting exhibition. As designer for Swamp 81, Deep Medi and Dubwar, Ashes57 has been heavily involved with the dubstep scene. Her line drawings and graphic design work have graced many record sleeves, flyers and websites and she continues to play her part in the movement, visualising the music that her friends are producing.

Over the years she has amassed a unique collection of photos, capturing the scene’s leading artists both behind the decks in packed out clubs, and in more intimate surroundings, away from the intensity of the dubstep parties. For this show she has complied a selection of her favourite photo portraits. Mala, Skream, Loefah, Coki, Benga, Silkie, Joker, Quest, Sgt Pokes – the pioneers are all here, alongside the emerging artists who represent future of Dubstep.

This show is at The Rag Factory for one night only: Thursday, 22nd July.
