Scuba is the production and DJ alias of Paul Rose, the curator of Hotflush Recordings, a label, which having released some of the most important tracks of the formative period of dubstep, has grown into a leading player in the wider world of electronic music. A celebrated and influential DJ, Scuba was voted #25 in Resident Advisor’s 2011 poll of the world’s Top 100 DJs and has also been nominated for several categories in DJ Magazine’s Best of British 2011 Awards.
Earlier last year Scuba released his ‘Adrenalin’ EP, picking up radio plays from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, and Rob Da Bank, illustrating how his sound has mutated into previously unexplored areas. Alongside ‘Adrenalin, Scuba also released his addition to K7!’s DJ Kicks series which has made notable appearances on several “Best of 2011″ lists.
On the 27th February, Scuba will release his third album through Hotflush. Entitled ‘Personality’ and featuring 11 brand new tracks, it takes in a wealth of genres across contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene. Preceding his LP will be ‘The Hope’; pushing on from the tense atmospherics of previous Scuba material, the single fizzes with claustrophobic bass pressure and menacing narration. Backed by an exclusive non-album cut ‘Flash Addict’, ‘The Hope’ will proceed the album on the 6th February.

This event is guaranteed to be a roadblock so we highly recommend you cop a ticket now, from somewhere like here.
Heard this dropped on Roska‘s show in October. Heavyweight conga rhythms. My sources tell me this might be getting a release on Tectonic. I seriously hope so.
The Get Some team has grown once more with the addition of another contributor and DJ, Richard Aki. Expect to see posts about a wide variety of events around London, the latest releases in garage, house, funky and dubstep, and anything else I think you should have in your life!
You can stream and download my recent mix here, including some old garage classics right through to this year’s best in bass music from the likes of SBTRKT, Joy Orbison, Pearson Sound, Mosca, S-X, Blawan and more. Catch me DJ’ing at Rhythm Factory on December 15 at Change Your Tunes! (http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=214383191967332)
R1 Ryders are back with a four track dancefloor smasher, encompassing their unique Funkitek sound. All Nite is the standout track for me on this release. R1 always put the work in on their DJ sets, so if you want to get down and see them live, which we highly recommended, the EP launch party is 20th November at The Nest, Dalston – Free entry all night.
Reggae Roast Jamdown
In Association With Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum
Saturday 19th November | 9pm – 5am
Plan B | 418 Brixton Road, London, SW9 7AY
Our good friends Reggae Roast kick off their new series of events at Plan B, Brixton. The Jamdown sessions will showcase the best roots reggae, dub, dubstep & jungle music from across the globe. Each event will feature a selection of top dubwise acts, supported by the renowned Reggae Roast residents DJs & singers. Situated in the heart of Brixton, Plan B is arguably the best club venue in south London, with a reputation for top quality programing, sound system and atmosphere.
The first Jamdown event showcases a selection of artists from the reggae roast records roster. Each of the headline acts have served up critically acclaimed 12” releases on the Reggae Roast imprint over the past 3 years. For this mammoth first event we have decided to bring them all together, displaying the full effect of the reggae roast movement. We have also drafted in some additional special guests to nice up the dance, including 9-piece live act; OnlyJoe and south London stalwart DJ Snuff.
Headlining the event are Mungo’s Hifi who have been hotter than lava this year! Having hosted the legendary Mungo’s courtyard arena at Outlook festival and releasing a string of massive releases on their Scotch Bonnet label, the Glasgow based super group are seemingly unstoppable. Pioneering a pounding, 21st century rub-a-dub style, Mungo’s Hifi have been serving up some serious riddims, featuring celebrated vocalists such as Movado, Sugar Minot and Earl 16. Not to mention their standout remix on the ‘Reggae Music’ EP released on Reggae Roast Records in May this year.
RSD, perhaps better known as Bristol bass and drum music legend Rob Smith and one half of the respected production duo Smith and Mighty, has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for more than two decades. He remains firmly at the forefront of Bristol’s endlessly inventive music scene, with a staggering discography and a range of projects encompassing dub, drum and bass, 2-step and dubstep.
Adding a live injection to the proceedings, Kenny Knots & Ruben Da Silva will both perform 30-min PA sets, playing classic tracks including ‘Watch How the People Dancing’ and ‘Bless A Sound’ not to mention exclusives performances of ‘Sensi Skank’ & ‘Love Light’, forthcoming on Reggae Roast Records. Also playing on the night will be Reggae Roast founders Exel & Moodie and resident selector; Dub Hunter. The sessions will be hosted by the one and only Ramon Judah.
This event guarantees to be a ROADBLOCK, grab your tickets in advance from here.
These Boddika and Joy O collabs are devastating, earlier on in the year we had Swims, which seemed to be on repeat at every Outlook Stage. Now this! Coming out some time on SWAMP81 (maybe.) Bob found this so credit to him.
