To say Mosca is doing a lot right now would be an understatement. After dropping the killer double A side on Numbers (Done Me Wrong and Bax) earlier this month, he shifts direction to Martyn’s 3024 label, with four slick house tunes. With each release he sets a new standard and there seems no genre he can’t turn his hand to, delivering the goods every time. An immense talent. The Wavey EP is out on 7 November.
As well as this, in celebration of his reaching 5000 followers on twitter, he has given away these tracks for free here.
House-tastic mix from the enigmatic Greek Gods. I can’t help thinking that their location should be set to Mount Olympus rather than Athens though. Bump this loud on your way home from work to kick off your weekend.
We don’t normally post events unless one of us is playing, we leave that to our friends at InFormed London but this is an exception. Launching Friday 4th February, Stop.Drop.Roll is new night for London bassheads at Dalston club, The Nest. Setting the bar very high with their first line-up, we have two guest list places to give away for you and a mate, plus some drinks. All you have to do is answer the the question:
What garage crew was Ms Dynamite part of before going solo?
Answers to jasset[at]getsomeuk.com before noon on Friday.
Absolutely huge riddim, T.Williams delivering a great track. This version is the Mosca remix who has had a really good 2010 and this track continues that trend. Check it…
Back in August, whilst gearing up to his Planet Mu label compilation entitled Bangs & Works Vol.1 Mike Paradinas shared his take on the origins of Footwurk/Footwork and Juke. Whilst showcasing some snippets and teasers of the scenes best he also featured a couple of the tracks secured for Planet Mu. These clearly whet the appetites of many. Since then there has been a definite upspring in the mentions, conversations and touch points featuring Juke and Footwork.
Although many will tell you it’s been on their radar for a couple of years (or more) it’s only in the last few months that it has consistently crept into a plethora of infulential DJ’s mixes and set-lists. Just today, FACT dropped their one hundred and ninety-ninth mix by none other than Mosca. His mix goes straight in hard with DJ Roc ‘Let’s get it started’ on a Juke, into Jungle, jump up vibe. In a rather similar fashion Mark Pritchard, in his Africa Hitech guise, did a little something similar on Wednesday night at Deviation when he used a coupe of Juke bangers as his stepping stone into a sweet old school Jungle selection which went down a treat. Unfortunately not all crowds are as open-minded as the Deviation regulars. This is something our very own J Money found out first hand on Halloween Friday. It sounds like the punters may have been genuinely scared by the intensity of the Footwork vibes. Oh well, maybe next year By then we’ll probably have seen someone like Wiley riding the Juke to widespread acclaim, winning over initial doubters. Although I couldn’t make it in person I also hear that Mr Paradinas did a special guest set at CDR in October alongside Mark Pritchard. As a hotbed for fresh ideas, new talent and some serious innovations in production I imagine his set there would have been met with open ears.
So, while we’ve got a bunch of guys seeding the sound to the open-minded in a dancefloor context, we thought it would make sense to help satiate the interest that seems to be culminating by rounding up some tasters for you. Some more lengthy and focused explorations and showcases of the Juke sound and it’s peripheral influences in mix form come from the likes of Chrissy Murderbot (below), a guy called Screwtec (who runs a Juke/GhettoTech/BootyBass night in Leipzig, Germany) and another favourite of ours being Kaptain Cadillac’s ‘The Footwork Chainsaw Massacre’ mix that Ouzo posted here a few months back. Of course, there is also Mike Paradinas’ own Mixcloud rinse out.
To top it off, if you want my take on where this could be heading, I think Chrissy Murderbot hit’s a tasty note with his Trey Songz ‘Neighbors Know My Name’ remix. I know, it’s sometimes hard to swallow, but when new vibes get the vocal treatment they typically go on to gain wider appeal. And, to be honest, if it sounds like this, I ain’t complaining.
First up, this Friday Numbers celebrate their 7th birthday at Fabric with a stellar line up. Headlining is Baltimore legend Karizma, and playing alongside are some of the UKs finest: Roska, Ramadanman, Ben UFO, L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok and the resident Numbers DJs Jackmaster, Spencer, Nelson and Goodhand.
Here’s a link to Karizma’s fantastic 2hr set on (newly legal) Rinse FM
But that’s not all. New promoters Ballast put on their first night down at Plan B with appearances from Darkstar, Mosca, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Kavsrave and Young Montana?.
Young Montana? drops a guest mix for Ballast over on his SoundCloud.
Both nights are going to be brilliant – but which one to choose?
If you miss either of these on Friday make sure not to miss the ‘Save Area 10′ party on Saturday night down in Peckham’s Bussey Building. Alongside Young Montana? there will be sets from Girl Unit, Mr Charisma, Throwing Snow, Chairman Kato and loads more. Entry is FREE as long as you bring some sort of propaganda showing your support for the threatened Area 10 art space.

On the 17th April, Get Some returns home to the The Gramaphone with a card stacked full of talent.
Tipped by Fact Magazine as one of their producers to watch for 2010, Mosca (www.myspace.com/deejaymosca) is leaving no stone unturned this year. When not working on Bruk Magazine (www.brukmagazine.wordpress.com) with Unknown Soulja, or promoting their club night U Dun Know, he’s busy in the lab cooking up beats. Super fresh production, genre smashing club music. Square One is out now on Night Slugs.
With remixes under their belts for Hot Chip and Gorillaz, a pioneering 3D rave night, a radio show and a record label, Dancing Robot (http://www.dancingrobotmusic.co.uk) look set to stop at nothing but world domination. Their live shows are pure hype and the lads’ sets at packed out Coronet and Koko are sights to behold.
Badboy Rinse FM DJ’s Elijah and Skilliam have been rocking out shows across Europe with the toughest grime and dubstep sets. It can’t be overstated how much they do for the scene with their Butterz blog (http://verybutterz.blogspot.com/) pushing the sound far and wide. And with a record label on the way, the levels continues to be kept high. Dubplate pressure not to be missed.
As per, resident Get Some selectors will keep you niced up all night with the right blend of old and new. Stick it in your diary.
5 POUND ALL NIGHT
