FUNKYSTEPZ — FULLER / HURRICANE RIDDIM

Posted by OUZO

WOIIIIIII, we like it Funky (stepz). That’s right, Hyperdub‘s latest release is from the UK Funky scene flavour of the month, Funkystepz. This one is defo for the dancefloor, big tropical bass and horns, the perfect blend of a good funky tune! ‘Fuller‘ is the tune for me, great track, one I will be inserting into the next OUZO BEATS mixtape for sure, check it!

GET SOME, OR A LITTLE LESS? DEBATE, DEBATE, DEBATE!

Posted by OUZO

I have been trying to work out whether I had missed anything in the music world over the last few weeks and it looks like I have missed lots but, that’s not to say it was anything worth catching in the first place! I logged on to Facebook for the first time in a long time to be welcomed by 700+ invites to groups and events, 150+ messages and the usual mountain of self promotion and hype. I am not hating as I genuinely feel that a lot of people have a lot of interesting stuff to offer but there has to be a way to cut through the seemingly never ending flow of information we all receive from day to day.

I won’t turn this into a rant so I will keep it short. The bottom line is, when you go to a trusted source for whatever genre of music tickles your fancy and only 20-30% of it is even half listenable (feel free to correct me on this if you dissagree…) what do you use as a filter? Sites like our own are doing a pretty good job of it I suppose, maybe it the responsibility of radio to rise again, or maybe producers and record labels should think longer and harder before putting records out, I’m not sure.

Maybe one of you has the answer, I would to find out. If you think you have the answer please comment as I would love to hear all of your thoughts on this. If anyone feels the same and has an idea maybe we can change it? Just a thought…

Teddy Music formerly DJ Silencer

Without doubt one of the most important Grime producers working in the game right now. Teddy (formerly DJ Silencer) had produced tracks for Skepta, Lethal B, Ghetts, D Double E and more recently P Money.

His stand-out productions are always popular with MCs and get heavy rotation on radio shows from the likes of Logan Sama, Westwood and Cameo. Teddy’s most recent work is collaboration with up-and-coming producer G.Tank entitled Ghanaian Fire.

A veteran of pirate radio, Teddy holds down a regular spot on newly legal Rinse FM, and has been smashing shows up and down the country. For grime fans anywhere, this is a performance not to be missed!

Simbad

A prolific producer as well as DJ, Simbad has produced under many different aliases but is best known for his collaborations with Karizma, under the guise of IZMABAD.

The no nonsense Frenchman describes his DJ style as ‘Quality Booty Music with a bit of Je Ne Sais Quoi…’ something we very much like the sound of. His versatility sees his style touch jazz, dancehall, funk hip-hop, deep house, garage, disco and broken soul – guaranteed to get the party rocking.

Doc Daneeka

Swansea’s Doc Daneeka, has been steadily establishing himself as one of the most promising producers to come out of the UK underground scene. Putting his own twist on the House and Funky sound with sub-low bass and rattling percussion saw him named in Fact Magazine’s ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2010.

As well as releasing his own tunes on the fabric, RAMP and PTN imprints, he has formed his own label, TenThousandYen. Championed by Marcus Nasty, Kode 9, Giles Peterson, Sinden, and Ben UFO to name but a few, demand for his work has seen him remix Delphic and the Digital Mystikz classic, Pathways.

PARIAH (R&S/Black Acre)
Blurring the lines between house, techno and garage, Pariah immediately grabbed listeners’ attention with some excellent remix work for Ellie Goulding and The XX. These have been followed up with a debut 12″ release (Detroit Falls) on legendary dance music label R&S records. Demand for this kid has soared, securing him sets across the UK and as far afield as Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
