Shortly after posting one of Duffstep’s latest tracks it came to light that he also has a very solid mix doing the rounds in the shape of a podcast for San Francisco’s Big Up magazine. Featuring tracks from the likes of Lone, Pariah, Falty DL and many more Duffstep’s mix more than adequately shines a light on the steppy tech future sounds of now. Particularly tickling me sweet is the inclusion of ‘Pineapple Crush’ by Lone. Solidly referencing the first era of rave with it’s acid splashes and hip-house tinges ‘Pineapple Crush’ sits in this mix like it’s zesty name suggests it might – up front and attention seeking.
The outstanding Pariah has followed up his debut single with a double vinyl EP entitled Safehouses on R&S Records. You can listen to a twelve minute preview mix of the tracks over on his myspace. Here is one track, Slump, featured on MAH’s Radio 1 show. Say No More.
EASY,
It’s been a while since I put out a mix and the sunshine over the last couple of weeks has really inspired me, so here’s my summer mix! I have been playing a few of these of these tunes for a while and there some other which I am just particularly feeling right now, kick back and enjoy! The last one being a personal favourite, and classic!!!!! Tracklist is below…

If you came to GET SOME on Saturday, thanks you. if not, here’s what you missed… A massive thank you to Greymatter, R1 Ryders, Pariah, G-Double and the Essex boys for making the night what it was, BIG!
Remixes for The XX and Ellie Goulding have been followed up with a solid debut release on legendary dance music label R&S. Fresh from recording his debut mix for Mary Anne Hobbs’ experimental show on Radio 1 we caught up with Pariah for a quick interview. This kid is on a tear right now, make sure you catch him at GET SOME on June 19 and big up MAH for the shout out!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name’s Arthur, I’m 22 and I produce music under the name Pariah.
Where are you from and where are you now?
I’m originally from Scotland but I moved down to London about 4 years ago.
When did you first get involved with music and what were you doing?
I guess I’ve always been involved with music from a very young age but I started producing about a year and a half ago. I’d messed about on Logic before when I was about 16 or 17 but I never really learnt how to do anything.
First record you bought? Last record you bought?
I know that the first tape I was given was either a Gloria Estefan or Michael Jackson album and that was when I was about 7 or 8. God knows what the first record I bought was. The last one I bought was the new Oneohtrix Point Never album, “Returnal”. Its amazing!
What is your most memorable moment in music?
Mixing for Mary Anne Hobbs’ show.
Where/Who do you get you inspiration from?
Burial, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Move D, early Aphex Twin, Garage, Jungle.
What’s next for you/your label?
My next release is a 2×12″ on R&S which is called “Safehouses EP”. Hopefully gonna get the masters finished in the next week or so.
If your career in music never was, what would you be doing now?
Well, I’m still at uni at the moment so I guess I’d probably just be doing that…. not hugely exciting haha.
Who should we be watching in 2010?
There’s so much good stuff around at the moment. Hessle and Hemlock are killing it at the moment. R&S has some truly amazing music coming in the next few months too.
And finally, please complete the following sentence…
We are back with another event and can’t wait for it to happen!!!!

GREYMATTER
With a full length LP release under his belt and subsequent remixes from TRG, Illum Sphere and Karizma; Greymatter is steadily forging a solid reputation for himself. His deep and soulful 2-step sound has been getting props from Zed Bias, Will Saul, Jay Scarlett, Blue Daisy, Subeena and Laurent Garnier. Our first fifty party goers will receive a free copy of Greymatter’s CD LP, incentive if more were need to get down early!
PARIAH (R&S/Black Acre)
Blurring the lines between house, techno and garage, Pariah immediately grabbed listeners’ attention with some excellent remix work for Ellie Goulding and The XX. These have been followed up with a debut 12″ release (Detroit Falls) on legendary dance music label R&S records. Demand for this kid has soared, securing him sets across the UK and as far afield as Amsterdam and the Netherlands. His Sonic Router mix (http://fairtilizer.com/track/81775) encompassed what we are all about, upfront new sounds alongside club classics.
R1 RYDERS
Since dropping their debut EP Burnout last year DJ/Producer Karnak and MC Skeelo have been tearing up show after show. Through their unique funkitek sound you can hear all the underground scenes that have influenced the group, house, hardcore, jungle and rave coming together form something new. If you’ve caught an R1 Ryders set before, you know that these boys are live and if not then you’re in for a treat.
GET SOME resident selector Ouzo (http://soundcloud.com/ouzo) will be providing the goods as always and we are pleased to welcome Pictures to the roster.
On Saturday night I popped down to Corsica studios with a few peeps to see the Black Acre records show case. It was good to catch up with some heads that were lingering around and some that were playing on the night that you will see VERY soon playing for us too. The line up was ace and included Pariah, Greymatter, R1 Ryder, Dark Sky, Doc Daneeka and Julio Bashmore, very exciting indeed. One thing I wasn’t expecting was what I got from Blue Daisy.
I saw the engineers setting up on stage a couple of hours earlier and couldn’t believe my eyes, they were setting up an MPC (fairly normal) and a desktop PC, WTF?!?!?!? Later I realised it was for the guy in the gas mask, enter Blue Daisy. If you have ever seen any old school WARP acts and love Electronica or Techno then his performance would have been right up your street. He literally blew me and everyone else at Corsica away. I can’t tell you what he was playing or whether you will ever hear that set again but what I can tell you is he is officially my new favourite live act!
I love his productions and have been following him on Soundcloud for a long time, so if you don’t know his track, here they are…Well worth a listen.
DUNCAN POWELL – CAME INTO VIEW Love this guy! I think Duncan Powell used to be on of MJ Cole’s sound engineers, he obviously picked up a few things along the way…
VVV – BACK TO LIFE Another great producer with a nod to the old school. The thing that is most interesting about this guy is that he is from Austin, Texas. The Us is definitely doing it right now…
XXXY – SING WITH US Hailing form Manchester, XXXY (pronounced EXY?) has managed to fuse Funky, Dubstep, 2-Step and house and is one to watch over the next twelve months too… Sing With Us
PANGAEA – BECAUSE OF YOU I really think this guy is one of the most underrated producers around. This track is from a colossal EP called the ‘Pangaea EP’ and is a belter. I could have filled this whole list with Pangaea productions, more of the same please…
Skeet over to Sonic Router to read an excellent interview with one of the UK underground’s rising stars, Pariah. With some strong remixes under his belt for Ellie Goulding and The xx, we’re looking forward to hearing more from Pariah over the course of the year. Definitely one to watch out for. His selection blends current sounds with some old classics (Cape Fear!!!) – just the way we like it.
