LAPALUX – MANY FACES OUT OF FOCUS EP

Posted by SARA

Every now and again a record label does something a little bit special which makes me let out a happy sigh. Many Faces Out Of Focus is a 6-track EP produced by young Essex boy Stuart Howard AKA Lapalux, due to be released on 18th April 2011 by Pictures Music. You can buy this release as a digital download or (here comes the happy sigh) there are 50 limited edition cassette tapes. The beautiful tracks in this EP are dark, complex, and intricate, yet amongst the abstractness lies the comforting elements of RnB.

Free download of ‘Time Spike Jamz’ here (via xlr8r)

Tonight Lapalux does a live set at the Boiler Room alongside Kutmah, Ghostpoet and Royalty. It will be broadcast live from 8pm here.

KORELESS

Posted by OUZO

“Remember when you first heard James Blake, Ramadanman, well remember this is where you first heard Koreless. Remember this: Koreless with a K”… That’s what Gilles Peterson had to say about Koreless, not a bad start to your music career now, is it? I was sat in Alex’s (co-founder of Pictures Music) studio listening to some stuff and he played me a few tracks by Koreless around a year ago. After two tracks I was pretty hyped.

I know very little about the guy personally but I do know he is from Glasgow and the underground music scene has been bubbling up there for a long time now. He is in all the right publications and all the right DJ’s are making the right noises so it only seems a matter of time before this guy is a household underground name. I know the Matt and Alex over at Pictures have high hopes for Koreless and I for one believe he will be a success too. Here are some tracks he has up on his Soundcloud, a nice Jacques Greene remix in there and a great original called ‘Up Down Up Down’. Both are great tracks but keep tabs on this guy, I have had a sneak peak of his next release and it is awesome! Due out on Pictures in late March, defo one to watch.

Teddy Music formerly DJ Silencer

Without doubt one of the most important Grime producers working in the game right now. Teddy (formerly DJ Silencer) had produced tracks for Skepta, Lethal B, Ghetts, D Double E and more recently P Money.

His stand-out productions are always popular with MCs and get heavy rotation on radio shows from the likes of Logan Sama, Westwood and Cameo. Teddy’s most recent work is collaboration with up-and-coming producer G.Tank entitled Ghanaian Fire.

A veteran of pirate radio, Teddy holds down a regular spot on newly legal Rinse FM, and has been smashing shows up and down the country. For grime fans anywhere, this is a performance not to be missed!

Simbad

A prolific producer as well as DJ, Simbad has produced under many different aliases but is best known for his collaborations with Karizma, under the guise of IZMABAD.

The no nonsense Frenchman describes his DJ style as ‘Quality Booty Music with a bit of Je Ne Sais Quoi…’ something we very much like the sound of. His versatility sees his style touch jazz, dancehall, funk hip-hop, deep house, garage, disco and broken soul – guaranteed to get the party rocking.

Doc Daneeka

Swansea’s Doc Daneeka, has been steadily establishing himself as one of the most promising producers to come out of the UK underground scene. Putting his own twist on the House and Funky sound with sub-low bass and rattling percussion saw him named in Fact Magazine’s ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2010.

As well as releasing his own tunes on the fabric, RAMP and PTN imprints, he has formed his own label, TenThousandYen. Championed by Marcus Nasty, Kode 9, Giles Peterson, Sinden, and Ben UFO to name but a few, demand for his work has seen him remix Delphic and the Digital Mystikz classic, Pathways.

Residents on the night will be J Money, Ouzo Beats (http://soundcloud.com/ouzo) and Pictures Music (http://www.picturesmusic.co.uk/).

DJ NATE – FOOTWORKING ALL OVER CHICAGO

Posted by OUZO

This is by far the most abstract piece of music or bizarre musical movement I have come across in a while. DJ NATE has just signed for Planet Mu and is the pioneer of a sound called Footwork. Footwork is a sub genre of a larger genre called Juke. I am guessing that this stuff is going to be all over the place pretty soon and if the kids can grasp the dance expect a ‘Footwork’ dance phenomenon, ala Breakdance the movie, in 3D! I know/knew very little about this until Matt sent me a couple of videos of these guys doing their thing. I have literally no words to describe this stuff, I definitely know I’m not that into the music but have a look at Lil’ Chris getting busy…

Also, the legendary Mike Paradinas has put together a little Juke mix for everyone to get familiar with the sound, check it out:

PICTURES MUSIC MIX FOR GETSOME

April Mix For GETSOME by picturesmusic

Here’s a mix that I’ve put together of music that I’ve been feeling over the past few weeks. Some old, some new, some unreleased. There’s a few bootlegs, some grime, the usual “underground music” and, my personal favourite, a track by hipster super-group Gayngs.

Watch out for big things from us at Pictures Music in 2010. New Dark Sky EP on the way for starters.

Tracklisting

Scuba – You Got Me (Hot Flush)
Ramadanman – Don’t Change For Me (Hessle Audio)
Joy Orbison vs Young Money – Hyph Mngo To Go (DJ Dials Vocal Mix)
Deadboy – Heartbreaker (Well Rounded)
Roll Deep – When I’m ‘Ere (Relentless)
Starkey – Numb Ft. P-Money (Planet-Mu)
Tynchy Stryder – Hype Ting Ft. Stutta, Mercston & Ghetts (Pictures Pissed Off Edit)
Patchwork Pirates – I’m A Balla Vs. Trilingual Dance Sexperience
Hudson Mohawke – Freek
Rudi Zygadlo – Resealable Friendship (Planet-Mu)
Four Tet – Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix) (Domino)
Clubroot – Talisman (Lo Dubs)
Foals – Spanish Sahara (Mount Kimbie Remix)
Gayngs – Spanish Platinum (Jagjaguwar)
