First time we heard about Claude Speeed the musician, was via a ten track bundle given away by Scottish taste making powerhouse LuckyMe; the track was called ‘Don’t Ever Antagonize the Horn’ and went on to become a staple opener in Black Athena dj sets ever since. Claude is also the guitarist and keyboardist of synthetic post-rock outfit American Men, who allegedly borrowed their name from a shop somewhere in Barcelona after a memorable night out during Sonar Festival and he has also contributed guitars to Mike Slott‘s forthcoming release.
Claude’s sound is resonantly dreamy and heavily emotive, while at the same time being crisp, tight and inescapably addictive. #thecoloursilver #jamiexxonpsychotropics
Mr. Speeed was kind enough to do a mix for our weekly radio show on Athens International Radio a couple of weeks back, just prior to his entry into the second term of this year’s Red Bull Music Academy (taking place right now in Madrid) and which is now available to listen back to on RBMA Radio.
Another installment of On The Buttons in November showcases the talents of female rapper Baby Blue and a Q&A with the mighty Loefah. If you don’t know what this is about, here’s a little example of what goes down from the last event. Swindle is mind boggling with the speed in which he builds this beat, very impressive stuff!
DJs Kashmir Kid and Tanzanite will keep things rolling with their mix of experimental underground sounds while you grab a drink, network with other like minded musicians, and maybe challenge them to a game of ping pong!
They are also putting on free drinks and it free to attend, can’t beat that really, can you? Sign up to the Facebook event to make sure you get a place on the guest list. FACEBOOK ON THE BUTTONS
Its hard to ignore the Red Bull Music Academy this year as it invades London. From live shows, to daily newspapers, to seminars the RBMA is involved in so many things these surrounding months. But its not all about the Academy that takes place each year – over on their website, they record and post hundreds of live sets from around the world.
Mount Kimbie, easily one of my favourite acts of last year, played a live show at Manchester’s Deaf Institute and RBMA were there to capture it. 60 minutes of leftfield electronic music that breaks the definitions of any genre I could think to place it in. Essential.
