With over 75,000 plays in under 12 hours (and counting) this is something worthy of a listen. It’s trippy. Quiet beautiful and apparently it’s Justin Beiber at negative warp speed. That’s right. According to the label it’s the teeny boppers track “U Smile” slowed down by 800% to an epic 35 minute Sigur Ros-esque soundscape. You have to sample it to get the full effect of the hype.
Just came across this little number on SoundCloud. Definitely on the future garage 2-Step inspired tip, and slightly more vocal than most will swallow at this moment in time but I gotta say it grabbed my attention. Maybe it’s my ingrained love of Todd (Edwards) style sampling that denied any chance of dismissing this, or maybe it’s just a solid track. A few more listens, a trial by dancefloor and some feedback from y’all wouldn’t go amiss in my effort to decipher.
Shouts out to Mumdance, the Old Skool Garage crew and the Mad Decent camp. Also known as Jack, Mumdance is a Grime producer and global remix smash. Diplo (Mad Decent) is already excited about him and the hype machine is on fire talking about his remixes. I first heard his Gucci Mane remix at the local disco and your may have bopped to one of his sets near you. Listen to the BBC 1Xtra session and expect to hear more through the collabos dropping later this year. To all you Garage heads the best treat comes in the form of guest MCs from way-back-when plus tracks reminiscing the scene previously known as ‘Garage’.

Skeet over to Sonic Router to read an excellent interview with one of the UK underground’s rising stars, Pariah. With some strong remixes under his belt for Ellie Goulding and The xx, we’re looking forward to hearing more from Pariah over the course of the year. Definitely one to watch out for. His selection blends current sounds with some old classics (Cape Fear!!!) – just the way we like it.

I was going to wait until the weekend to drop this as Saturday Night Banger but actually it’s just what you need to get you into focus mode on a grey Tuesday Morning. Royal T remixes one the biggest underground tracks of last year.
Dark Sky are three young producers from London who weave together the sounds of dubstep and garage into deep, hazy club music. The boys offer up the first in a series of Dark Sky mixes, featuring tracks from Scuba, Pangea and Ramadanman as well as their tracks ‘Leave’ and ‘Drowned City’ due out as part of an EP on fledgling label Pictures later this year. Also this year, Dark Sky will release their debut single on Bristol’s Black Acre label, featuring the tracks ‘Ghost Notes’ and ‘Something 2 Lose’. AND their incredible remix of The xx’s ‘Crystalised’ is dropped into this mix for the very first time. Don’t sleep on this one.
